ABOUT
KIRA SHAIMANOVA
SCULPTURE + ILLUSTRATION

Kira Shaimanova is a Toronto-based sculptural illustrator known for creating meticulously handcrafted characters and worlds with a distinctly surreal point of view.

Her work begins with an idea and takes shape by hand. Kira sculpts characters from clay, constructs miniature sets and environments, and brings each scene together through composition and photography. The result lives somewhere between sculpture and illustration — tactile, unexpected and unmistakably her own.

Inspired by the fantastical, the strange and the wonderfully absurd, Kira’s work pairs detailed craftsmanship with character, storytelling and a playful sense of dark humour.

A graduate of OCAD University’s Illustration program, Kira has created work for advertising agencies, publications, brands and entertainment projects across North America. Her sculptures have appeared in campaigns and editorial work for clients including MAD Magazine, BBDO, DDB Canada, Saatchi & Saatchi and others.

Her character sculptures of The Sheepdogs were featured in the band’s Feeling Good music video, winner of the JUNO Award for Video of the Year, and her work has received recognition from Applied Arts, The Advertising & Design Club of Canada, 3×3 Illustration Annual, Creative Quarterly and CMYK.
